three things

1. posting flurry around here--whaaat? so few comments? i'm giving it all here, you know, right?
2. i've given in, i have a myface page and will be friends with all who ask, but i have to say that i'm already feeling overwhelmed because i feel obligated to read and respond to everything that shows up on my 'wall' and i feel compelled to read the comments on your walls so i can respond appropriately, and oh, man, do i feel like i'm about to fail spacebook...
3. just because i adore, absolutely adore my jojo, does absolutely not mean it is okay with me to return home from work to find said jojo has chewed off one of the tassles from one of my new round pillows...and i thought she was simply enjoying the racing back and forth from the settee to the chair to the ottoman to the fainting sofa...i had no idea she was scoping out tassles.

close but not quite

Remember this post? Early last January, I posted pictures about the basement remodel. Remember the removal of carpet on the drummer's birthday in 2007?

And the crypt opening that same night?

This is one of many times Jack walked away trying to figure out what to do to fix the next mess we'd uncovered...

This is the bullseye Jr and the Drummer painted and threw hatchets at on the wall they were about to demolish. Boys. What are you gonna' do with 'em?

And here is the Drummer standing amidst the demolition work. Notice the wiring, plumbing, lighting, walls, etc. issues that needed to be resolved.

The pile of wood on the left side of the pic is the remnants of the walls the drummer knocked out. Note the wiring hanging from the ceiling--many, many different wires...

More wires, more sheetrock, more debris...

This is the general feeling in the room whenever Jack and Jr were trying to convince each other that he had the best plan in mind, rather than the plan the other was proposing.

Oh the tools we/they used.

The Drummer might say he doesn't do sheetrock, but this photo would indicate otherwise.

Seriously, someone had to do something with all of the assorted wires hanging from the old ceiling. Identify, determine usefulness, eliminate and run new wires. And note the two black plumbing lines running from the upstairs laundry room through the proposed pool table room and into the floor down to the sewer. Somebody had to figure out what to do with those babies. As well as those vertical pieces of wood every ten feet or so. What to do with them?

And did I mention the radiators (see the long silver device on the floor at the end of the room) that needed to be removed, plumbing rerun, and new radiators installed?

Preparing to paint--serious painter--using the new airless sprayer

Creative painter, not quite so serious, but still...

There was plenty of horseplay or JoJo play...

Painting has been accomplished

Insulation and wiring is progressing, note the sewer line is gone as are the vertical beams in the walls...

and then the carpet was installed

geez, more to do--lighting, ceilings, windows...

laser-leveled ceiling grid, so many lights it feels like early morning

completed ceiling, lighting, painting, carpet...always a mess of construction debris to discard

still need to build and install a couple of cabinets and a countertop and bar, but a feller's gotta iron his shirt sometimes...

then, Jack made the mistake of stopping at a furniture store with me the other day and we came out with a desk for him and a heap 'o stuff for the theater room...

I did not even look at the back of the truck until we got home. No wonder Jack wouldn't let the Drummer ride in the chair in the back of the truck on the way home.

And here is the theater room--and no leather sectional unit thank you very much

probably can't see how great the picture looks, but I suspect Jack and I will never go out to a movie again.

The boys are working on their pool hustling skills...

and I'll be using these babies to get ready for skiing in a couple of weeks and riding my bike when the snow melts.

Yes, there are still some windows to install and the crown molding isn't up yet in the theater. We may need to do a bit of furniture moving to get it all just right, but I'm telling you, Jack and the boys have done a fine job. And in another six months, his thumb should be all healed up.

nutcracker

I saw two productions of The Nutcracker in the past week. One was the Desert Star Playhouse version of "Nutcracker, Men in Tights," a total spoof of the serious version that Ballet West puts on every year. A couple of days ago, several of us girls in the gardens went to the Ballet West version, but I didn't realize when I bought the tickets that the last matinee is the "Nutty Nutcracker" at Ballet West.

What could be nutty about the Nutcracker, you ask? So many, many things. Herr Drosselmeyer's afro wig, the skiing couple who showed up at the party in Act I, the disco dancing performed by all of the parents in Act I, trumpets for the girls, dollies for the boys, clown noses on ballerinas, Groucho Marx glasses and mustaches on ballerinas. And more, including frequent appearances by Waldo from the "Where's Waldo" books, whether dancing the Russian dance, or hauling in his taco or noodle cart, or showing up in the grandfather clock. And then there was the change in the story where the Rodent King bonked the Nutcracker on the head and then escorted Clara to Act II, as well as the tag team hand slapping between various soloists as they left and entered the stage. There was the bumblebee ballerina that kept hitting on various male dancers, trying to buzz or sting them and there was a male dancer on rollerblades. And I don't think I've ever seen Clara eat popcorn while on the throne watching the dancing.

I'm sure there were other nutty things going on besides the ones I mentioned, but my favorite nutty thing during the ballet was when the percussionists began playing the castinettes during the Spanish dancer number and Audrey immediately sat up straight in her seat, began clicking her fingers together above her head, and yelled out, "Where are the crabs?"

jojo's christmas toys

Remember when I mentioned that my mom dropped by with toys for JoJo? And how JoJo had chewed out the squeaky noisemakers in about 20 seconds and shredded the ropes within the hour?

After Audrey's bath, I took pictures of the remnants of the toys.

family photo op

I think I mentioned the Jensen family Christmas party. We had good food, fun times visiting, and the kids had a great time dumping out all of Brayden's toys--sorry about that Emily! Jack and Stu took pictures of almost everybody who attended--

Angie--sister to Eric, wife to Patrick, mother to Issac

Stuart & Shilo married to each other and parents to Audrey and Eleanor;
Cory & Jessie married to each other and parents to Breanne and Janey.

Jack and me married to each other and parents of Stu, Jessie, Drummer, and Jr; grandparents to Breanne, Audrey, Janey, Eleanor.

glory be

Countless cold, throat-closing, lung-clogging hazy days--

Several days of snow, tiny flurries, big fluffy flakes--

And then this morning--

I guess we won't be using the barbecue or the mop for a while. Alrighty then.

the amazing eleanor m.

Stu took these on Christmas Eve or perhaps Christmas--can't remember. He clicked and clicked and clicked so there are too many to post them all, but here's a little treat for you, dear readers, early in 2010.

See what I mean about her disposition? Happy, happy, happy!

She is so ready to be Jo's pal--

I just want to kiss her sweet head. If you look closely, you can see the blond hair on top.

This one reminds me of my dad

something about those chubby cheeks--ooh, I just want to kiss them!

I included this one because you can see how closely she is watching me, just waiting for me to pick her up and love her. She is already mad for me...and the feeling is mutual.
